But it’s a different green — greener energy — that geologist Fred McLaughlin seeks as he drills nearly two miles (3.2 kilometers) into the ground, far deeper than the thick coal seams that make this the top coal-mining region in the United States.

June 14, 2022 GMTGREELEY, Colo. (AP) — Five people from Wyoming, including an infant girl, are dead after the SUV they were in was rear-ended by a tractor-trailer in northern Colorado.
Investigators with the Colorado State Patrol say the SUV was in the left lane of Interstate 25 in Weld County and had slowed for traffic when the semi slammed into it Monday afternoon.
2 officers shoot, kill Wyoming man armed with edged weapon
January 16, 2022 GMTGILLETTE, Wyo. (AP) — Two police officers shot and killed a man who reportedly charged at them with a “large edged weapon,” police in Gillette said Sunday.
Officers responded at 7 a.m. to a report that the suspect had made threats and refused to leave a residence, the Gillette News Record reported.
Wyoming mayor resigns after off-color texts become public
January 7, 2022 GMTGILLETTE, Wyo. (AP) — The mayor of Wyoming's third-largest city has resigned after text messages she sent with off-color and denigrating remarks became public.
Gillette Mayor Louise Carter-King announced her resignation Thursday, two days after apologizing for the texts about City Council members and other local officials, the Gillette News-Record reported.
Man faces drug charges, didn’t bail out woman who took rap

(AP) — A Wyoming man faces drug charges after his girlfriend, who initially claimed responsibility for meth found during a traffic stop, complained in recorded jail calls to friends that he hadn't bailed her out and that the drugs were actually his, authorities said.
