EDA column: An action-packed summer downtown

July 27, 2017 GMT

My name is Jena Blanchard and I am interning with the Ellensburg Downtown Association this summer. I have lived in Ellensburg a little over a year now, attending Central Washington University while pursuing my degree in sociology with a minor in nonprofit management. I am thrilled to have the opportunity to work alongside the EDA this summer, assisting with event promotion and community involvement.

There are some fun events ahead of us. Before going into detail, here’s a snapshot of upcoming events downtown. Jazz in the Valley from July 28-30, First Friday Art Walk on Aug. 4, Fair and Rodeo Kick off Breakfast on Saturday Aug. 19, Hoedown in the Downtown on Wednesday Aug. 30, and Buskers in the Burg on Sept. 29 and 30.

Jazz in the Valley

Ready to celebrate Jazz? The 20th annual Jazz in the Valley is right around the corner. On July 28-30, there will be a line-up of various musicians ready to bring music to downtown Ellensburg. Some venues are kid friendly, so bring the whole family for a fun weekend downtown.

Weekend passes are $50 when paid in advance, $60 at the box office. Single day tickets are also available. Tickets may be purchased at or in person at the Kittitas County Chamber of Commerce located at 609 N Main Street in Ellensburg. Free admission for children 10 and under.

Hoedown in the Downtown

Join the EDA and the Ellensburg Rodeo for Hoedown in the Downtown on Wednesday, Aug. 30. Kick off Ellensburg Rodeo and Kittitas County Fair weekend at the Rotary Pavilion on Fourth Avenue and Pearl Street with the Dusty 45’s from 7-10 p.m. Entertainment is provided free of charge thanks to our sponsors Central Washington University and the Ellensburg Rodeo. Those of legal drinking age can enjoy a beer and wine garden.

Buskers in the Burg

Buskers in the Burg will be here before we know it. Join the EDA on Sept. 29 and 30 for this well-established favorite.

Those interested in busking for this event, please visit our website to fill out our busker application. Application deadline is Aug. 1.

For more information about upcoming events contact the EDA at or call (509) 962-6246.
