TOPEKA, Kan. (AP) — A couple who was found dead in their Topeka home died in a murder-suicide, authorities said Tuesday.

The bodies of Linda Marie Vidosh-Zempel and John Alfred John Zempel, both 68, were found on Monday evening.

Jackson County, Kansas, Sheriff Tim Morse said a woman called 911 Monday and reported her husband was dead. When deputies arrived, they saw a woman with a gun inside the house and heard a gunshot, Morse said.

Morse said investigators believe Vidosh-Zempel, who had mental health issues in recent years, shot her husband sometime during the day on Monday and then shot herself when deputies arrived.
