Blue Roof program extended to Oct. 15

September 30, 2021 GMT

BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) — The Blue Roof program that supplies and installs tarps onto storm damaged roofs as a temporary fix until repairs can be made has been extended until Oct. 15.

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers said the free program was to have ended Thursday, but because of demand they decided to extend the deadline.

The goal of the program is to allow people to continue to live in their homes while they wait for roofers and contractors to become available.

With more than 100,000 homes damaged, the Blue Roof program has experienced delays on its phone lines. Residents can apply online, https://www.mvn.usace.army.mil/Missions/Emergency-Operations/Blue-Roof-Information/, or can call the Blue Roof Program at 888-766-3258.
