Cleveland Sports Legends softball game adds Browns great Joe Thomas

AVON, Ohio – Cleveland Browns great Joe Thomas is the latest athlete to be named to play in the Cleveland Sports Legends softball game at 7:05 p.m. Saturday, June 23, at Sprenger Health Care Stadium.

The game, which raises money for Our Lady of the Wayside, will include a who’s who of former Cleveland greats from various eras: Former Browns running back Kevin Mack, former Cleveland Cavaliers Mark Price and Austin Carr, former Cleveland Indians Len Barker and Joe Charboneau. Also signed up is former New England Patriot, Super Bowl champion and ESPN Cleveland radio host Je’Rod Cherry, who works with Our Lady of the Wayside.

It will be interesting to see how far Thomas - a 6-foot-6, 300-plus pound former offensive lineman - can drive a softball. Thomas will make an appearance at the VIP meet and greet and will play but will not be available for post-game festivities.

Gates will open at 6 p.m. for batting practice. The seven-inning game will include 50-50 raffle.

Also, fans can bid for a chance to play with the Legends. A pair of roster spots are up for auction; starting bid is $300. To bid, call 440-934-3636 or stop by the stadium. Bidding will end Sunday, June 10th.

The stadium - home to the Lake Erie Crushers - is at 2009 Baseball Blvd., Avon.

Our Lady of the Wayside is a non-profit that supports developmentally disabled individuals. The organization recently held Grapes & Ale at Progressive Field.
