DETROIT (AP) — A 24-year-old Detroit man has been found guilty in the beating death of another man inside an eastside motel room.

A jury convicted Jimmy Pickett Tuesday of second-degree murder, the Wayne County prosecutor’s office said Wednesday.

On Feb. 11, 2020, police found the body of 56-year-old Bashar Kallabat of Bloomfield Hills in the motel room. Property belonging to Kallabat also had been taken.

Pickett’s sentencing is scheduled for July 13.

The Fair Michigan Justice Project prosecuted the case. The program assists law enforcement officers and prosecutors in solving serious crimes against lesbians, gays, bisexuals, and transgender persons.
