2 dead, 1 hurt in head-on crash in East Brookfield
EAST BROOKFIELD, Mass. (AP) — Two people died in a head-on crash on a Massachusetts highway when one vehicle crossed into oncoming traffic, state police said.
An SUV and a pickup truck collided on Route 49 in East Brookfield at about 12:30 p.m. Monday, state police said in a statement.
The preliminary investigation indicates that the SUV, operated by a 60-old-man from Fitchburg, was traveling north while the puckup truck, operated by a 71-year-old man from Leicester, was traveling south.
At some point the SUV crossed into the southbound lane and struck the pickup.
Both drivers died. A 28-year-old passenger in the pickup was taken to the hospital with serious injuries, police said.
No names were released and the crash remains under investigation. The highway was closed for about four hours after the crash.
