Attempted robbery victim killed after Thanksgiving dinner
ROCHESTER, N.Y. (AP) — A 23-year-old man was fatally shot on his way home from Thanksgiving dinner when someone opened fire on his family’s car during what appeared to be a random robbery attempt, police said Friday.
The driver also was struck but managed to drive to the hospital, where he remained in stable condition.
Neither of the car’s two other occupants, who included the deceased victim’s 5-year-old sister, were hit.
Police said the family members were driving home in Rochester around midnight when their car was blocked by another vehicle. As at least one person approached from the vehicle with a handgun, the driver tried to back up to flee.
The gunman opened fire, striking the driver and 23-year-old Davezhone Bratcher of Rochester, who died.
“The suspect(s) and victims did not know each other and this appears to be a random robbery attempt,” police said in a news release Friday.
No arrrests had been made.
