Son in custody after elderly couple found dead in home
TUMWATER, Wash. (AP) — The Thurston County Sheriff’s Office said a man was in custody Sunday night after the bodies of a married couple were found in their homes following a welfare check.
Officials have not identified the suspect or victims but deputies said the couple’s son, who was in his early 30s, was in the Maytown home when law enforcement officers arrived, KOMO-TV reported.
Officials did not immediately identify a cause of death or reveal a motive for the killings.
Investigators said a relative of the deceased couple asked deputies to make a welfare check because they had been unable to reach the victims. When officials went to the home about 7 p.m., they found the bodies of the victims, both believed to be in their early 70s.
Both victims were pronounced dead at the scene, the sheriff’s office said.
The victims’ son, who does not live at the home, was in custody and being questioned about the incident, investigators said. Officials said there are no other suspects in connection with the deaths and residents in the area were not in danger.
