Project to beatify Interstate 65 exits making progress

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. (AP) — A project to beautify Interstate 65 exits in Bowling Green is making progress as contractors installed lettering on stone walls intended to invite travelers into the community.

Signs that say “Warren County Kentucky” and “Western Kentucky University” were installed before Christmas and another that says “Bowling Green” is planned, the Daily News reported.

The exit will eventually include flags and lighting to make it eye-catching and inviting, said Operation Pride Chairman Johnny Webb, who has led efforts to beautify the exits as way to attract more travelers to stop in the southern Kentucky city.

“The lettering will be backlit and will be more spectacular at night,” Webb said. “People going north on the interstate, that’s what they’ll see.”

Trees and flowers have also been planted at five exits.
