Officer attacked after responding to Jamestown apartment
JAMESTOWN, N.D. (AP) — A Jamestown police officer is recovering from injuries after being assaulted while responding to a welfare check.
Police said they were called to an apartment on Wednesday because a mental health professional wanted an officer present.
Family members of the man also went to the apartment and a fight eventually broke out, with the assailant punching a relative in the neck and face, KVLY-TV reports.
The officer intervened in the fight and the man eventually starting punching him, according to officials.
Eventually police were able to arrest the 29-year-old man and he was taken to jail on possible charges of simple assault and assault on a peace officer.
The officer attacked was taken to the hospital and has cuts and bruises on his face.
