Officers fatally shoot man at Florida apartment complex

BOYNTON BEACH, Fla. (AP) — Police officers fatally shot a man while responding to a domestic disturbance call at a South Florida apartment complex, investigators said.

Boynton Beach police officers responded shortly after 10 p.m. Tuesday to the Via Lugano community, a news release said. Boynton Beach is located to the south of West Palm Beach.

The officers encountered Christian Castro, 27, who was armed with a hammer and a knife, official said. Castro was shot during the encounter, authorities said. No officers were injured. Details about what led to the shooting were not immediately provided.

The shooting will be investigated by the Florida Department of Law Enforcement. The Boynton Beach Police Department will also conduct an internal investigation, the news release said.

Two officers involved in the shooting will be placed on administrative leave with pay during the investigation. Police didn’t report the races of Castro and the officers.
