Florida man fatally shot after police say he reached for gun
DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (AP) — A man who was a suspect in a previous shooting was fatally shot by police in central Florida during an attempted arrest after he appeared to reach for a gun, authorities said.
The man was fatally shot Wednesday night while a police K-9 tried to pull him from a vehicle after a traffic stop, the Daytona Beach Police said in a statement.
“As the K-9 attempted to pull him out of the vehicle, the man appeared to reach for a firearm located inside the car, leading to the officers opening fire,” the statement said.
The man died at a hospital where he was taken for treatment of multiple wounds. Authorities did not immediately release his name.
The four officers who were involved in the fatal shooting were put on paid administrative leave. The Florida Department of Law Enforcement is investigating the incident.
