Florida mom arrested after daughter died in foiled suicide
KISSIMMEE, Fla. (AP) — A woman whose 4-year-old child was found dead earlier this year during a foiled suicide attempt at a central Florida resort has been arrested on a first-degree murder charge, officials said.
The woman was arrested on Wednesday, the Osceola County Sheriff’s Office said.
On Jan. 10, deputies found the woman and her daughter unresponsive at the Star Island Resort in Kissimmee. The deputies were doing a well-being check after the woman didn’t show up for work that day, officials said.
The child had no pulse and the mother was taken to a hospital with a “faint pulse,” officials said.
Investigators said a written note found near the two said, “I’m sorry.”
An autopsy found the girl died of poisoning, Sheriff Marcos López said. Deputies found Tylenol and Benedryl in the hotel room.
“If she wanted to take her own life, she could have,” López told news outlets. “She didn’t have to include this 4-year-old baby, who hasn’t even begun to live.”
