Thumbs up to Scouts
Thumbs up and a big thank you to the Scouts and whoever else was involved with putting out the U.S. flags on Flag Day, June 14. Well done! And ... they were all down the next day. Your hard work was appreciated.

Thumbs up to new water feature
Thumbs up to Brad Case and City of Ellensburg Parks for the new dog water feature at the Irene Rinehart dog park, fenced in on the south side. Joby the Orange Giant gives it two paws up.

Thumbs up to Dachshunds on Parade
One of the more entertaining events of the early summer is the annual Dachshunds on Parade today in downtown Ellensburg. There will be a parade, pet tricks and, of course, dachshund races. This event draws dachshund owners from across the region and is just a fun time.
Thumbs up to end of school year
Even though there is a two-hour school day on Monday, the business of the school year is pretty much done. A huge thank you to all the teachers, staff and administrators who devote their time, skill and energies to our local schools, and congratulations to all the students and parents for making it to summer break. Hope everyone has a great summer.
Thumbs up to summer reading program
Although school is out that does not mean minds should not be engaged. The summer reading program at the public libraries throughout the county is a fun way to keep kids reading and learning throughout the summer. Check out your local library branch for details and a schedule of events.
Thumbs up to Touch a Truck
Come Monday afternoon and your kids are already looking for something to do, you’re in luck — the annual Touch a Truck event runs from 1 to 3 p.m. at Rotary Park in West Ellensburg. It is a chance for kids to see the big trucks and equipment city crews use.
Thumbs up to dance performance
Central Washington University Dance Academy and Central Washington Dance Ensemble are staging “The Magic Treehouse” with performances at 2 and 7 p.m. today at Hertz Hall on the Central Washington University campus. The show includes dancers from age 3 to 50 plus performing ballet, hip hop, tap, jazz and musical theater.
Thumbs up to Father’s Day
There’s far less gift-giving pressure on Father’s Day — a hug and mumbled “Luv ya, dad” will suffice. But maybe this could be a day when you’re particularly nice to your father, perhaps let him finish reading the Sunday paper. It’s just an idea. Happy Father’s Day to all the dads out there.
