Golf: Matthews Vaults Into Top 20

May 13, 2018 GMT

With his best round of the weekend, Brandon Matthews made a charge up the Tour leaderboard on Saturday.

Matthews, a Dupont native and Temple graduate, breezed to a 4-under 67 at Fox Den Country Club to move into a tie for 18th place at the Knoxville Open tournament with only today’s final round remaining.

Starting on the front nine, Matthews birdied his first hole — a par 5 — and was solid the rest of the way. He recorded no bogeys in his round and finished with three additional birdies at holes 6, 10 and 18.

He is six strokes off leader Daniel Summerhays, a PGA Tour regular, and Will Claxton.

Matthews begins his final round at 10:05 a.m.
