Police officer shoots man wanted for murder after car chase
LAKEWOOD, Wash. (AP) — A Tacoma police officer shot and seriously wounded a man in Lakewood while trying to arrest him for investigation of first-degree murder.
The News Tribune reports the man shot by police was taken to a hospital for treatment, according to a news release from the Pierce County Force Investigation Team. No officers were injured.
The man, whose name has not been released, was wanted for the Feb. 7 death of Joshua Ferrell, according to Piece County Sheriff’s Department spokesperson Sgt. Darren Moss.
Ferrell was shot in the city’s south end and died after someone dropped him off at a hospital, police said.
On Tuesday, police had an arrest warrant and were trying to apprehend the suspect around noon and said the man fled, crashing into parked vehicles and continuing to drive. Officers pursued him into Lakewood along South Tacoma Way and shot him after he crashed into other vehicles, police said.
The Pierce County Force Investigation Team is investigating.
“I am grateful for the Tacoma Police Department’s efforts to ensure that these serious violent crimes continue to have a high-rate (sic) of being solved in our city,” Tacoma Mayor Victoria Woodards said in a statement.
