BONNER SPRINGS, Kan. (AP) — A suspect in a fatal hit-and-run in Missouri and a shooting in Kansas was arrested Wednesday after a standoff in Bonner Springs, Kansas, police said.

Law enforcement officers had been searching for 20-year-old Yucasante Oropreza since Jan. 8 for crimes on both sides of the state line in the Kansas City metro area, KMBC-TV reported.

Kansas City, Kansas, police chased Oropreza’s vehicle after a shooting in that city but suspended the chase when he drove into Kansas City, Missouri, police said.

The suspect hit a vehicle driven by 47-year-old Dahir Abdi, of Olathe, who died at the scene, Kansas City, Missouri, police said.

Abdi ran from the scene of the crash.

Police from Bonner Springs and Kansas City tracked him to a home on Wednesday and eventually persuaded him to surrender.

Oropreza was booked into the Wyandotte County, Kansas, jail where he is awaiting a hearing.
