LEAVENWORTH, Kan. (AP) — A Leavenworth man has been sentenced to 3.5 years in jail for a fatal hit-and-run on March 1, 2020.

Justen Michael McCarter, 37, was sentenced Thursday in the death of 44-year-old Adam Wheeler, who was struck by a motorcycle as he crossed a Leavenworth street.

Prosecutors said McCarter was speeding on a stolen motorcycle when he hit Wheeler. The motorcycle was found 150 feet away from Wheeler’s body.

Witnesses told police McCarter was drag racing at the time of the crash, KSHB-TV reported.

McCarter lost an arm in the crash.
